Be right back…

Sorry for the lack of posts lately – it’s been a bit manic here, both with work and home-life. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to update my series on the compact home theatre PC soon…

    Hi,

Just a quick note on my story - I bought the R3600 (Linux version) and I also got a Samsung SE-S084 external DVD drive and a Cyberlink USB Remote, all from ebuyer for the cracking price of under £200 delivered.

I installed XP Pro, PowerDVD, K-Lite Std Codec Pack, DVD Region Free Firefox and uTorrent. I also installed a software package called Intelliremote that allows me to alter the functions of each button on the Cyberlink Remote Control.

I now have a fantastic HTPC that can playback DVD's and downloaded content as well as youtube videos on my 52" plasma. The remote control now allows my wife and kids to select what they want to watch without touching a keyboard!

I'd be very interested to see your setup to see how I can better my own - looking forward to the resumption of your blog.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

some good stuff there Derek, just learning about my xmas pressie. I an hoping to keep things basic and lite, hoping I can install a linux of some type.
You say, it has preinstelled linux?? I can't find it.
  • It depends on what exact model you purchased. There's the 3600 (with XP), or the 3600L (with LINUX). It will run most LINUX packages anyway. I find it runs just fine with Win7, with just 1GB of RAM - although I am planning to upgrade to 2GB at some point.
